Middle School Course - MouseSquad/one quarter class
Course Description:
From the MouseSquad Website: “MOUSE Squad, an innovative youth development program, prepares and supports students in establishing and managing technical support help desks in their schools. While improving a school’s ability to use technology to enhance learning, MOUSE Squad provides a powerful, hands-on 21st century learning experience for students. The MOUSE Squad curriculum incorporates both CA Career-Technical Education Standards and Common Core State Standards in a curriculum of 10 Modules and 2 additional Certifications.”
Students at Union Middle School will have an introduction to the Mouse Squad by working through parts of Modules 1-4, an emphasize on Module 3: Desktops & Laptops will allow for the Performance Base Tasks.
III. Student Outcomes: List specific learning objectives students will have met after successfully completing the course. Including topics and subtopics to be covered.
Module 1 Outcomes: Building Your Mouse Squad
1) Become familiar with Mouse Squad
Module 2 Outcomes: Running Your Help Desk
1) Detail goals and objectives for yourself
Module 3 Outcomes: Desktops and Laptops
1) Observe and record characteristics of computer components
2) Explain the function of each of the basic components of a computer
3) Identify and research internal computer parts
4) Recognize and connect a wide range of ports, cords, and cables
5) Be able to properly care for laptops, (ChromeBook-iPAD).
6) Create a plan for safe laptop use.
Module 6 Outcomes: Dr. Trouble Shooter
One of the most important skills for MOUSE Squad Members is their ability to be expert problem solvers. Knowing how things work is only a start - experts in any field have ways to troubleshoot problems that come up in the course of their work. This module introduces students to using an organized approach to troubleshooting and solving problems.

Students will have Performance Based Tasks as well as written assignments on Google Docs to share/collaborate with teammates as they work through the specific module. (Students will have some knowledge about Mouse Squad during this course, but will not be taking the certifications for each module.)

Computers for the online Mouse Squad website along with other technology resources as needed will be used to teach this course.

- Enhance technology literacy and STEM education through an interactive online curriculum and relevant hands-on activities.
- Develop students' skills in communication-( we will use Edmodo for regular online communication), leadership, teamwork, and problem solving through collaborative learning activities and the practical application of those skills.
- Increase student understanding of and interest in STEM college, career and vocational opportunities through tech projects, help desk operation, and field trips, (Xilinx).
